In short
Add a signup form on your site (native or embed), write honest consent copy, verify a sending domain, enable a welcome email, then send small campaigns while watching bounce and complaint rates. One connected stack beats exporting CSVs between tools.

Why start from your website

Most “how to start a newsletter” guides stop at “pick an ESP and import contacts.” That skips the part readers actually search for: how to turn website visitors into subscribers — legally, reliably, and without your open rates collapsing in week three. This guide covers the full path:
  • Capture signups on your site
  • Confirm consent matches what you will send
  • Authenticate your sending domain
  • Automate a welcome email
  • Send your first broadcast safely
  • Measure signups and clicks in one place
Aveiro connects site forms, audience lists, and analytics in one organization. The steps below work whether your site is built on Aveiro or you embed a form on WordPress, Webflow, or a custom app.

Step 1 — Add a newsletter signup form

You have two paths:
Approach
Best for
Email Signup component on an Aveiro pageSites you build and publish on Aveiro
Embed form (script or iframe)Existing sites on WordPress, Webflow, or other hosts

Native signup on Aveiro

  • Open your homepage or create a /newsletter page in the editor.
  • Add an Email Signup component — hero, footer, or dedicated landing.
  • Publish Page content so the form is live on your public URL.
Subscribers land in that site’s list inside Audience, ready for segments and campaigns.

Embed on an external site

If your marketing site already lives elsewhere, use Audience → Embed forms to generate a styled widget. Pick the site list, optional segment, allowed origins, and copy the snippet. Detailed walkthrough: Embed a signup form on any site and Embed forms.

Step 2 — Write consent copy that matches your sends

Search engines and mailbox providers both punish mismatch — readers report spam when they forgot what they signed up for. Checklist for signup copy:
  • State the frequency — “Weekly on Tuesdays” beats “occasional updates.”
  • Name the sender — your name or brand, not a vague “we.”
  • Describe content — product releases, essays, curated links — specifically.
  • Link your privacy policy when you collect email and run analytics.
If you enable a consent checkbox, its label must reflect the same promises as your welcome and campaign emails.

Step 3 — Verify a sending domain (SPF, DKIM, DMARC)

Do not send newsletters from an unauthenticated @gmail.com address or a bare domain without DNS records. Inbox placement suffers before you have stats to diagnose.
  • Go to Audience → Domains and add the domain you will send from.
  • Add SPF, DKIM, and DMARC records at your DNS provider.
  • Use Refresh and check DNS in Aveiro until authentication shows verified.
Full setup: Sending domains. Until verification completes, draft your welcome email — but keep automation disabled.

Step 4 — Enable a welcome email

A welcome email confirms the subscription, sets expectations, and often gets the highest open rate you will see.
  • Open Audience → Automation for the site tied to your signup form.
  • Write subject and body in the campaign-style editor.
  • Toggle Enable welcome email after your domain is verified.
  • Submit a test signup on the published page (not editor preview).
Welcome sends count against email credits like broadcasts. Prerequisites and toggles: Automation.

Step 5 — Send your first campaign (start small)

Your first broadcast is a reputation event, not just content.
  • Open Audience → Campaigns and create a broadcast to your site list or a segment.
  • If the list is new or imported, send to a smaller segment first — engaged readers, recent signups, or a test group.
  • Avoid purchased lists. High hard-bounce rates trigger throttling fast.
  • After 24–48 hours, review opens, unsubscribes, and link clicks — then open Audience → Deliverability.
Deliverability shows bounce rate, complaint rate, and authentication health per domain for the last 30 days: Deliverability.

Step 6 — Make your site findable and measurable

A newsletter without discovery is a diary. Pair list-building with basics that help search and social: SEO for your signup page
  • Set a unique page title and summary — e.g. “Weekly product notes — subscribe” not your generic site title.
  • Add a cover or social image so links preview well on X and LinkedIn.
  • Site-wide defaults plus page overrides: SEO and social sharing.
Analytics for signup intent
  • Enable visitor tracking — it's cookieless and banner-free; just mention analytics in your privacy policy: Analytics and privacy.
  • Name your signup button’s Analytics event (e.g. newsletter_signup) so you see clicks, not just page views: Events.
Page views on /newsletter tell you traffic arrived. Event counts tell you anyone clicked “Subscribe.”

FAQ

Do I need a separate email tool if I already have a website builder? Only if you want disconnected workflows — export subscribers, paste into another ESP, hope tags survive. Aveiro keeps forms, lists, campaigns, and site analytics in one org. Can I embed a form without moving my whole site? Yes. Embed forms sync into the same Audience tools as native signups. See Embed forms. What if deliverability shows “at risk”? Pause large sends, remove bounced addresses, audit signup sources, and fix authentication. Action table: Deliverability.
