Published sites keep visitors in their locale when they follow internal links. Publishing source pages warns about stale or missing translations, and translation-variant preview hides version history and per-page publish.

What we shipped

Multilingual sites got three workflow improvements in the editor and on the live site:

Locale-prefixed navigation

When a visitor reads a non-default locale (for example /de/pricing), internal links in headers, footers, sidebars, MDX body copy, and collection or book blocks stay in that locale (/de/about, not /about). The default locale keeps clean unprefixed URLs.

Translation publish guards

Publishing source-language Page content with localization enabled now checks target languages for stale and missing translations — not just outdated pages. The dialog adapts:
  • Outdated — source changed since the locale was last translated
  • Missing — pages exist in the source language but not in that locale
  • Both — a mix across languages
You can cancel and fix issues in the Translations tab, or Publish anyway when you are shipping source-only updates.

Toolbar gating on translation variants

When the toolbar language switcher opens a translation variant for preview, version history and per-page Publish / Unpublish are hidden. Locale go-live stays in each language's detail panel — the same place as AI translation jobs and cost estimates.

Why it matters

Visitors should not bounce to the wrong language mid-session. Editors should not accidentally publish or roll back a locale variant from the source-language toolbar. And teams shipping source copy get a clear heads-up when translations lag behind.

Try it

  • Enable localization, add a target language, and translate a few pages.
  • Preview the locale from the toolbar switcher — note read-only mode and the missing history/publish controls.
  • Publish source Page content with a stale or missing locale and review the new warning.
  • Open the live site in the non-default locale and click through header or collection links — URLs should keep the locale prefix.
